Introduction
If you are accustomed to a world filled with noise, experiencing silence for the first time can be disconcerting. This page contains links to practices that others have found valuable while engaging in Silent Concord; however, there is no guarantee that you will find them so. You can try these practices, use others not listed, or invent your own.
The Silent Concord practices provided below have been reduced to their bare essentials. The goal is not to provide you with 'turn-key' solutions, but to suggest areas for further exploration. You are likely to adapt the practices to your own particular situation as you experiment with them.
The practices provided also do not contain any element which must be accepted on faith. This has several advantages:
- the practices are suitable for use by the widest possible audience
- each practice can be disassembled, its method of operation understood, and then be re-assembled in a new and possibly better form
- disagreements over the existence of faith-based entities are avoided
However, you are certainly welcome to use a faith-based practice during Silent Concord if you choose.
As you read each practice, you may try to imagine the effect of performing the practice (a questionable exercise), and decide that the anticipated effect is not worth the effort necessary to achieve it. However, there is one thing to keep in mind: synergy. The effect of mastering all practices can far exceed the effect of mastering any individual practice.
In many cases, the practices work by simple force of habit. New mental habits you develop while engaged in Silent Concord can continue to be used in your daily life. You may be surprised to discover the extent to which you can change your mind - and thereby change your world - by replacing unhealthy old mental habits with healthier new mental habits.
It is likely that the most valuable practices have not yet been invented. If you discover a practice that you believe would be of value to others, feel free to send it to us for inclusion on this website.
